With the remake of Ocarina of Time on 3DS last year, we saw how an aging N64 classic can be successfully given a fresh life on the system.
Since then Zelda fans have been keeping their fingers crossed for a remake of Ocarina of Time’s sequel, Majora’s Mask. Set in a surreal alternate reality, Majoras Mask was a darker and deeper game that many gamers hold as their favourite Zelda game.
Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma said last year that he would love to remake Majora’s Mask for 3DS, if fan demand was high enough. But interstingly Shigeru Miyamoto has also hinted that a remake or even a sequel to the SNES classic A Link To The Past could work well on the system.
So which is it?
In an interview with IGN.com, Miyamoto was asked what the status was on these games, and his answer was surprisingly frank:
“We haven’t quite decided yet, whether we’re going to do A Link to the Past, because there’s also the possibility of doing a remake of Majora’s Mask. This is something we’ve certainly been talking about and doing a little bit of experimenting with, to figure out which way we’re going to go.”
It’s fantastic to hear that Nintendo are actively experimenting with both these games on the system. Majora’s Mask is my favourite Zelda game, so seeing it remade on the 3DS would be a dream come true for me.
