In an investors meeting during E3, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata spoke about the current position of developers working with the system, and how they will further utilize the Wii U’s potential over time.
“While existing platforms have engines that development teams have tuned and optimized for six to seven years after their respective launches, the Wii U is a new platform that has slightly different architecture and, since development teams have only just begun development on software for it, they are only at the halfway point to utilising its full potential”
Concerning current cross-platform games, Iwata noted that there is only a slight improvement in visuals for the Wii U versions, this is expected to change when developers begin to fully utilize the Wii U hardware.
